The Ghosts returns to their base of operations. Ghost 1 takes off his vests and shirt, the other Ghosts usually stare at him, while Ghost 10 just goes on minding his business, going into the shower.
“Good work. We’re done for the night. Go back if you have to. 7, school tomorrow?”
“Yeah.” 7 says as he struggles to take off his boots, ends up slipping and falls down face first. The Ghosts laughed while Ghost 1 simply let out a cough, seeing how comical it was. Meanwhile, Ghost 10 walks out of the shower wearing his bartender outfit, he had a handsome face with a burly body. He was the team’s demolitions and breaching specialist.
“Going back to your bar?”
“Of course. Would you like to come, 1?” Ghost 1 puts his hand on his chin, seemingly contemplating the choice to go or not. He shakes his head and looks at Ghost 10.
“I’ll join you later. I need to go report to the Director, First.”
“Alright. See you there.”
“Make sure you don’t bring 7 to the bar. And the rest of you too. Don’t get drunk. Some of you have college and work tomorrow!” Ghost 1 shouts as he walks out the door into the hallway.
“Awh come on!” Ghost 7 shouts annoyingly.
“Yes, Mom,” they responded back, much to his amusement. Ghost 1 puts on a shirt and walks over to the main office. He knocks on the door.
“I do not go by that name anymore, Sir.” the man nods and smokes his cigar.
“Sorry. I’m getting old. Still remembering you as Richard. By the way, how was the team?” the man asks as he turns the chair, facing the glass window behind him.
“They executed whatever I ordered with perfect obedience and with precision.” Ghost 1 answers. He observes as the cigar smoke drifts across the room. He notices something on his table. A card on the table that reads ‘For Director Bliss.’
“Ghost 1. How long has it been since you joined us?”
“It’s been three years. Sir.”
“3 years. I remember hearing about what happened. I sent 10 Ghosts to go and handle the situation, they tried to rescue as many people as they could, that's when they found you. They fought for you until they died. Irina, Kurt and yourself were kidnapped by some cult. The cult members are still at large, most likely still spreading their beliefs to the public at large. Infamous and hard to track. A 19-year-old like you should be in college, not on the battlefield.”
“That’s ironic seeing how you allowed Ghost 7 to even be a ghost since he is just a high school kid.”
“Right... how is he in your opinion?” Bliss asks as he puffs out the cigar smoke, this time turning the chair to face Ghost 1.
“Overall, as a marksman, he surpasses the rest of us, he’s got good eyes.”
“Do you know that he’s quite similar to you? His circumstances, I mean.”
“I don’t want to read the file, sir. I know, you told me that I should know my team, but somethings... Are better left unknown... Especially the past prior to becoming Ghosts.”
“The Black Haven.” Ghost 1 says out loud, gritting his teeth as he remembered what they did. The fact that they cut him open, cut his arms off, then his legs and finally proceeded to burn his face still lingered in his mind.
“The ritual they performed was the Freeing The Pure Soul. The pure soul being Ghost 7, they raped his family repeatedly right before his eyes, killed them and then they raped the corpses right before his eyes. They strapped the poor soul to a remote control car and used it to kill his lover’s family who was on the road. His heart, lungs and eyes were a wreck, but the girl’s dying wish was for him to have her organs... That was one hell of a surgery. If I'm not wrong, I could have sworn I heard him screaming the whole way through. The anaesthetic was not strong enough to put him to sleep, I had to do the surgery of replacing the damaged parts while he was awake, but he didn’t squirm at all. Ghost 7 just looked at me in the eye. I never thought that human had the willpower that could manifest itself as to withstanding a surgery that was beyond insane.” Bliss snuffs the cigar, looking at Ghost 1 with a blank expression.
“He looks up to you. Though, I’m sure you know why. The ritual they did was Cleansing the Sins of Lust. They injected you with drugs and you were forced to...” But Ghost 1 raises his hand, stopping Director Bliss from carrying on.
“At least Irina and Kurt were safe. But it was disgusting. I’d prefer to kill rather than... What they had me do... Then they had my limbs cut off when I refused. Anything else you need, Director?”
“That will be all. Ghost 1.” Ghost 1 walks out the door, grabbing a hooded sweatshirt and leaves to the bar. He finds Ghost 10 by the counter, wiping glasses. Ghost 1 sits on a stool where the light was only on the bar counter.
“What’s your poison today?”
“Here.” Ghost 1 looks at the glass of Whiskey with the ice.
“Take it slow and steady. It’s meant to be enjoyed by a connoisseur.” Ghost 1 nods, as he slowly drinks the Whiskey.
“Isn't this Scotch? It’s got… I guess you could say a distinct taste to it... Single malt?”
“Maybe I’ve been your bartender for too long.” Ghost 10 says with a smile, followed by a couple walking through the door.
“Welcome to the Empire Bar.” Ghost 10 says as he stands behind the bar counter like a stick, seeing the couple take a seat next to Ghost 1, to which Ghost 1 realises it being Kurt and Irina.
“Hi. Erh.. This is our first time drinking here. What should we get?”
“Get him a Cranberry Vodka and her a gin and tonic. Keep it simple.” Kurt looks around wondering who it was.
“Would that be sufficient for both of you?” Ghost 10 asks them, knowing well that Ghost 1 is not comfortable with them being here.
“Yes. I guess.”
Ghost 1 is just fine as he knows that Ghost 10 has already done the wiring of Empire Bar to be suitable, so much so that the lighting dims greatly when he’s around, almost as if he did not exist. Ghost 10 makes the drinks and he watches as the couple indulge in it, they seem to be enjoying their drink greatly, while Ghost 1 is seen simply not paying much heed to them, or so he thought he didn’t.
Ghost 1 slides the glass to Ghost 10, to which he gets it and looks at his direction.
Ghost 1 nods as Ghost 10 prepares another glass, he notices how Kurt and Irina seem to be observing Ghost 1. Just seeing his hands moving on the counter top.
“Here you go, sir.” Ghost 1 takes it and drinks.
“It’s rude to stare.” Ghost 1 says out loud, finishing his cup, then pushing the cash to the front.
“Thank you for the drink.” Irina and Kurt could hear the footsteps and they see the lights dimmed as the figure walks away. They turn to see the figure, just to see it exit through the door.
“One of the bar’s regulars. He doesn’t like people seeing how he looks like. But if he recommended you a drink, he must be fine with both of you. Considering he just shuts up and just drink his glass of Whiskey.” Ghost 10 states with a relaxed tone.
“What kind of person is he?” Irina asks with Kurt looking at Ghost 10 with eyes of curiosity and desperation.
“A loner. Someone you’d never want to be friends with. He just comes here because he likes the Whiskey.” Ghost 10 lies as he cleans the glasses, keeping his gaze by the door.
“Does he have a name?”
“No. He doesn't. He just comes in, orders the Whiskey and walks out.” Ghost 10 adds on as he looks at them, the two sigh and pays for the drink.
“He already paid for both of you.” The two walks out the door without saying a word. Ghost 10 simply keeps cleaning the glasses, while knowing fully that Ghost 1 is already broken from that brief encounter.
“He’s still a kid.” Ghost 10 thought as he smokes his cigar.
