Ever since Delilah was a little girl, she has always dreamt of going for prom. Prom was a big deal to her. However, when prom night finally comes, it wasn't a very good start for her. She was desperate to look good for her very last high school dance, so, for the first time ever, she went to a salon shop to get her hair done. But when she looked in the mirror after her hair was all done up, she didn't like the slightly messy updo she saw. She was very certain that it was a total disaster and she felt like the look wasn't her. She was freaked out. For the rest of the day, she was stressed out. Her mom tried to comfort and console her but that just seems to make the matter even more worse. This was her last and final senior prom and all she wanted was to look good! It's now 2 hours before her senior prom starts. She stopped worrying about her hair and quickly put on her flared blue polka-dot prom dress. It was definitely a perfect fit. Then, as she started applying her makeup, she began to see a beautiful transformation. All of a sudden, she thought, her hair isn't that bad after all. In fact, she actually loved it. In the end, the hair, the makeup and the dress flowed together perfectly. She felt beautiful and she had a wonderful evening at her senior prom.
What makes a woman feel beautiful? The answer to this question is very complicated. Can you remember the first time you truly felt beautiful? Maybe it was because you dressed up for a special event or maybe you received a compliment from someone about how you looked that stuck to you. I once googled the question " How can a woman feel beautiful?" The internet came up with almost zero results for that question. So I replaced my question with " How can a woman look beautiful?". There were thousands of answers to that question. Well, there is a huge difference with feeling beautiful and looking beautiful. Some very attractive women do not feel beautiful and on the flip side, some women who are fairly average do feel beautiful.
" To me, Beauty is about Fun and Freedom. There is a lot of freedom when you know for a fact that you don't have to be 100% original"
To me, beauty is about fun and freedom. There is a lot of freedom when you know for a fact that you don't have to be 100% original cause that's not even possible but you can still be totally you and that is where fun comes. Many of us want to be original and we don't want to look exactly like everyone else. As you play around with your hair, clothes and makeup, you can create beautiful looks and put together looks that no one else can pull off in the same way. No one has the exact same body as you, the same face, the same hair color or even the same hands or feet! You make your very own beauty statement when you put on your own style. So what is the key to feeling beautiful? Through my experiences as a whole, your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as elaborate hairstyles, fine clothings or even jewelries. Rather, it should come from your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quite spirit that is of great worth in God's sight. Inner beauty last but outward beauty can change or fade. Qualities that come from the inside such as love, self-control, kindness, gentleness are the qualities that will last through our entire lives. So does this mean we should never pay attention to our outward beauty? I don't think so and here's why.
I've realized that looking good on the outside can totally change how you feel on the inside. Looking good can change how you interact with people and can give you confidence. When a woman doesn't feel like she's beautiful, it impacts her life. I recently watched a Youtube video about a hairdresser giving haircuts to homeless people in London. You can see a dramatic difference in the expressions of his clients before and after they receive the haircuts. A haircut can boost the confidence and happiness of people who haven't been able to take care of themselves. I know I feel most confident when I'm with my T-shirt and my leggings. For others they may feel most confident in a dress or when their hair is curled up. Everyone's sense of style and fashion is different but most people feel more confident when they put effort into their appearance.
Just as you inner beauty may look different than mine, your outward beauty will also look different than mine. My smile may be my best feature, while your eyes or hair may be your best feature. Another way to feel beautiful is to focus on maximizing your best features. If you have a unique and beautiful smile or your eyes tend to be expressive, why not play it up? Try not to compare yourself with others because it kills and it makes you believe the lie that we aren't beautiful. You are beautiful. When I choose to focus on who God has made you to be, I silence the voice that tells me that I'm not beautiful. No matter how unhappy I am with something about my physical appearance, God made me that way for a reason. Everyone was created intentionally with worth and beauty.
Be thankful for who you are rather than being disappointed in who you're not. Cheers!
