After much anticipation with its infamous Snap & Win contests and Starbucks card, Uncle Tetsu cheesecake and cash giveaways, the annual Career Fair hosted by the Career Fair MMU Melaka team is back! The 2-day event held at Exam Hall commenced at 10am on the 19th of January with the arrival of VIPs and guests. The VIPs who attended the opening ceremony were YB. Datuk Wira Hj. Md. Yunos, Exco of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Green Technology and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Rafi, Vice President and acting President of MMU, Prof. Dr. Heng Swee Huay, Vice President of Research and Development and Mr. Zamzuri Abdul Majid, Campus Director and Senior Director of STAD.
Upon reaching Exam Hall, it was obvious that the team took great effort to set up the venue. The entrance was lined with a red carpet, seemingly ushering guests in with a warm welcome. Before proceeding to the exhibition, guests were to register themselves on the computers at the registration counter by the entrance. After that, goodie bags were given containing a Career Fair 2016 calendar, vouchers of up to 50% off for electronic gadgets, vouchers for a car-sharing service, coffee samples and a travel-sized tissue pack.
The objective of Career Fair is to provide MMU students the opportunity to be exposed to potential employers and start up their future. After all, the slogan says it all, “Start Here, Go Anywhere”. The exhibitors featured this year include platinum sponsors Resort World Genting and Ikitch, gold sponsors Juris Technologies, Texas Instruments and Public Bank and other established names such as Great Eastern, Jobstreet, Astro, Honda Malaysia and many more. Apart from the exhibition booths, there was also an interview area for employers to interview potential future employees among the students of MMU Melaka.
There were career talks conducted both days by a few companies including Resort World Genting, ServiceRocket, ON Semiconductor Malaysia, SP Setia Bhd, Akademi SWA as well as GTI Media. There were also 2 lucky draw sessions for each day. The prizes given out were lucrative such as the LED television, tower fan, induction cooker, printer, speakers and many more.
However, what truly distinguished this year’s Career Fair from the previous years is the Career Carnival held in Mosque Square. The carnival was a true eye-opener as it featured many interesting food, drinks, clothings and even contact lenses and towels at cheap or discounted prices. From fried squid to curry fishballs to cheesecakes to brownies to Pocky, the choices were endless. The highlight of the carnival has got to be the photo booth. Students may purchase anything from any vendor and get a free pass to take pictures at the photobooth where the pictures are printed immediately in the shape of a bookmark. Additional merchandises from the Career Fair can be obtained at the Mosque Square as well. These include notebooks, hand fans and hotel vouchers.
Career Fair 2016 has definitely set a whole new benchmark with its success this year. We can’t wait to see how Career Fair next year could top this.
