Lite shower is an initiative taken by our very own MMU lecturers, Ms Hani Suhaila, Mr Jee Kian Song as well as Dr Ng Poh Kiat. It is a portable mobile shower. Its designed is user friendly and encourages a healthy living for all. This project is to help the homeless and urban poor who do not have access to proper facilities to bathe and clean themselves.
To bring this idea alive, a competition was held among MMU Faculty of Engineering & Technology students earlier in 2016 to hear from the students on their idea and innovative designs. Through this competition, a prototype was born. With a few fixes here and there, the latest design included portable led light, a shower head and water pump. It was incredible to see the pieces come together to form a mini shower space which could later then be used to provide for the need of our street friends and the victims of natural disaster. Did you know, a sum of RM 200,000 was awarded by the HIP 6 for this innovation.
Some of the other VIPs includes Prof Datuk Dr. Ahmad Rafi Mohamed Eshaq (The president of Multimedia University), Mr Amerridzal Bidin (The Vice president of technology facilitation & Business innovation), Datuk Ibrahim Bin Haji Ismail (the director of RTM Melaka), Dr Abdullah Sallehhuddin Bin Abdullah Salim (the director of STAD MMU). The deans of FET, FOB and FOL Dr Fazly Salleh Abas, Dr Gerald Goh Guan Gan, Dr Manique Cooray also attended the event.
Overall, this event was a success and a total of 30 units of mobile portable showers were handed-over to the NGO’s such as NSTP, RTM, JKOA, The third force, Belia 4B Melaka, as well as MIMPA free of charge. We would like to thank the organiser for inviting MMU Editorial Squad to be part of this event. We look forward to seeing more inspiring and innovative ideas in the near future.
The ceremony ended at 4.30pm with a Hi-tea session for the guest. A special thank you to Noor Hisham Kamis for the pictures taken at this event.
