The Centre of Diploma Program (CDP) has created a new precedent on this day. For the first time ever, CDP together with both staffs and students organized an event to celebrate all CDP final year students and also the Dean’s List achievers. It also served as a farewell event to those who are graduating. Prior to this, a similar farewell celebration was done before this but it was mostly on a smaller scale. This year, the event is organized in a more grand and formal manner. The spirit of the night was clearly portrayed by the event name itself, ‘Felicitate’ which means to award or to give. The event was held at the main hall.
At around 8.00 pm, the interactive and charismatic emcees, Edmund Teh and Chan Pei Ling began the event by explaining the house-keeping rules and welcoming speech to the audience. The main hall was packed and all the tables were filled as some of the students also brought along their parents to witness their proud moments. The atmosphere was exciting and all the attendees could feel the excitement as the event organizers decorated the main hall with a simpler approach in the decorations. It served the purpose well as it looked simple and attractive.
The Guest of Honor escorted by the VIPs arrived around 8.05pm. The Guest of Honor is our very own Vice President of Academic, Prof Dr. Hishammudin Bin Ismail together with the VIPs who are Dr. Ong Puay Tee, Director of CDP, Mr. Suhaimi Sarip, Deputy Director of CDP together with the event advisers and other CDP Lecturers.
The audience was entertained by an opening performance by Chinese Orchestra Society where 2 of their committees played the Cello and keyboard. At 8.45pm, dinner commenced. The food prepared had a decent amount of varieties. The menu was Briyani together with assorted dishes, on the buffet table, there was cabbage, ‘acar’, chicken curry, ‘sambal’ eggs, and there were a few vegetarian dishes for vegetarian guests. Overall, the amount prepared was very generous and all the guests had a decent amount of share. Most if not all of the attendees were satisfied with the food as it was tasty and filling, none of the dishes were too spicy thus everyone enjoyed the meal.
As dinner was going on, our appetites were enhanced when the second performers performed an amazing duet singing ‘ Lucky’, the singers are Michael Wong and Ho Yen Yen from the COS Choir Club. A solo performance went on after the duet performance, a singer gifted with a mesmerizing voice by the name of Koh Cheng Keat captivated the crowd as he sang ‘Home’. After the performances ended, the event continued with the presentation of Dean’s List Awards. Throughout this award presentation, all Dean’s List Awards recipients queued up at the side of the main hall waiting for their names to be called out. As this went on, we could see some of the recipients' proud parents smiling with full of joy as their children went up the stage to receive their certificate.
A 3rd performance went on which was a ballet dance performed by the talented ballerinas, Julien Gan and Chen Shuyen. The crowd admired the performance as it is not common for an event to have a ballet dance, thus we could see there is a change of flavor in Felicitate as compared to other night functions. Later on, souvenirs were presented by Dr. Ong to Prof Hisham to appreciate the effort he took to attend the event. The event ended officially with a final performance by another duet by Yen Wen and Timothy sang ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You'. One of the main reason that makes Felicitate special is that most of all who performed are all either current CDP student or ex CDP students which show that how talented CDP students are. A point to note is that some of these singers performed in a few cafes in Melaka namely Wings Café, Station One and also Mori. Kudos to all the talented performers.
Towards the end of the event, the Guest of Honor escorted by the VIPs left the main hall. CDP Felicitate Night was concluded when the emcees adjourned the event and opened the dance floor at around 10.15pm.
Utmost congratulations to CDP Dean’s List Award Recipients and all the very best to their graduation, may all of you always make MMU proud and be a ‘Permata Dunia’. Not forgetting, well done to CDP and the event committees for successfully executing the 1st ever CDP Felicitate Night.
