And so the adventure begins...The Retro Ball Night was held on the 8th of December and was organized by the Multimedia Initiative for the Language of English (MILE). The fancy night officially began at 7pm at the Main Hall. It was organized to celebrate the ending of English week and to give out prizes to winners for the events that has been organized during the English week. Not only that, this ball night has also given the opportunity to take a break from the stress that every student goes through in university. The entrance of the Main Hall was decorated with colorful balloons and each of us was given a bottle of soda complimented with life quotes which comes with the straw as we entered the hall.
As we entered the hall, we were dazzled and mesmerized by the lightings and the decorations. The beautiful gazebo in the middle of the hall was like a dream come true for every person who has always dreamed of dancing under the gazebo just like in the Disney movies and getting themselves wrapped up in theatrical fantasies. The evening was crowded with people who was dressed up like the people from the 70s. Almost everyone brought their dates to the ball night and some brought their friends.
The emcees of the event were Varuna and Kelvine for the evening's entertainment. The event started out with a heartwarming speech from the director of the event, Chan Pei Ching, who thanked the committee members for making this event possible. Next, the crowd was given a short and simple speech from Madam Sareen and a representative from STAD. We were served with fish, lamb steak, and vegetables which were catered from Coffeeology. The food served was tremendously appetizing. While the delicious and scrumptious food was being served, we were amazed by the modern dance performed by Multimedia Arts and Theater Club also known as MATA followed by a singing performance by Michael Wong and Chew Hui Ching. The crowd was hyped up again when the Dancing Queens owned the stage. After a few outstanding and extraordinary performances, the prize giving ceremony to the winners of the English week were given out followed by the lucky draw. The prizes for the lucky draw includes a pen drive, a keyboard and a PC screen. The next agenda was the performance by Shao Yang who played the guitar and sang two songs which was so overwhelming. Evan's dance group cheered up the crowd with the remarkable dance. The last performance was more of a hands on performance which includes the crowd too. The MATA dance group taught the crowd to dance the line dance. The crowd followed the dancers with much enthusiasm and zeal. The last dance had certainly energized and warmed up the crowd for the last agenda which was the dance floor. The dance floor started off with three slow songs and continued with a more upbeat song later on.
Overall, this magical night had made the crowd feel inspired, alive and connected. It was a moment of joy, love and entertainment. Some created moments and some created memories. Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.
