On 15th of July 2016, MMU Melaka hosted yet another talent show. This time themed, "Talent show is My Culture". The event was organised by our very own International Student Society (ISS), directed by Tan Wye Nye. It was held in Main Hall and the venue was decorated nicely. Seats were arranged accordingly by the MMU GOT Talent Crew as well.
The purpose of the event was to showcase existing talent that is in our campus. This year, we were very privileged to have 4 guest of honour as the judges, Mr Eden Yap, a young and talented entrepreneur who is the founder of Apps Design Studio; Mr XO LEONG, a professional mural painting artist; Encik Mohd Izwan Nasarudin, Assistant Manager of Students Affair Division (STAD) and Encik Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman, a lecturer from LIFE faculty.
The event was kick started by presenting tokens of appreciation to the judges, followed by amazing and jaw dropping performances performed by none other than our very talented contestants of MMU GOT Talent. To name a few, there was Liyana Syamimi who could not only sing, but could also compose her own songs! Arisco, talented singer and guitarist contested as well. He was challenged by the judges on the spot to present a short song about Coca-cola and Linkodes and he did so without breaking a sweat. And there’s Teo Jia Schen (Jason) was a fellow performer who awed everyone with the art of balancing. Last but not least, the USD dance crew, made up of 5 members, Sherman; Christopher; Francis; Tan Xin Wei; and Adern. The 5 of them blew the audience and the judges away with their marvellous dance moves.
During the first interval of the performances, a short video presentation was presented by Mr Eden Yap, who is also the representative of Linkodes for the night. Linkodes is a smart app designed to create digital name cards, managing contacts and earning income. A mini Q&A session was conducted to further our knowledge on Linkodes as well after the presentation.
A lucky draw session was conducted by the good-humouredly emcees, Mahmoud Gebril and Daven Lok. Everyone was in suspense and the tension rose when no one claimed the numbers they called out. Soon enough, there were winners amongst the crowd and they were awarded with goodie bags.
Tan Wye Nye, the Director of MMU Got Talent, mentioned, “Our greatest achievement is not about how successful the event turned out to be but being able to recognise the talent and giving them a platform to shine.” Indeed was the true purpose of this event and it was a huge success. Kudos to her and her team, the ISS of MMU Melaka.
After, about 10.45pm, it was then, time for the judges to decide who had the deserving talent among all the contestants. Alas, decision must be made and the judges finally came to a conclusion. Our top 3 of MMU Got Talent are the USD Dance Crew, Jason Teo and Arisco. Congratulations! And to those who did not make it, you win even when you lose. You have faced the crowd and stood strong, something that not all of us can do. Congratulations to you too!
