Running is one of life’s guilty pleasures that only a select few choose to indulge in. Sometimes we run alone, other times we enjoy the company of a friendly face or a random stranger. The Anniversary Run comprises of both these elements and brings an event that will be talked about for some time to come.
The event was organized by the RoadRunners, a club solely dedicated to the passion and enthusiasm that goes into running. The event began around 6.30 a.m., about the time the first group of eager participants made their way to the registration booths set up in President Square. The music echoed throughout the location, getting the hype going. Upon registration, participants are given event shirts, suited for providing the best running experience and a complementary balloon. The director, Shawn Chang Kai Wen gave a simple but heartfelt pep talk that got the crowd ready for what was to come.
A brief but necessary warm up session ensued right after. The sight of coloured balloons littered the air as each participant had to carry one while running, as it was this year’s theme. The entire route was 5 km and as if that was not enough, the runners would have to go through an obstacle course that tests the limits of an already exhausted physique.
The event came to end when all the participants made their way to the finish line. A vibrant and colourful medal awaited them as they crossed the barrier separating the road and cemented pavement. A few stayed back and commemorated the moment with pictures of their triumph and leaving their signatures on a broad banner.
